Finding Strength in the Struggle: My Son, ADHD, and Motocross

Being a parent to a child with ADHD and sensory processing challenges means you see the world a little differently. My 15-year-old son has never had an “easy” day. Ordinary routines—like getting ready for school, staying focused in class, or coping with the chaos of a crowded environment—can feel like climbing uphill with extra weight on his back.

ADHD keeps his mind racing. Sensory processing issues make sounds, textures, and unexpected changes feel overwhelming.

And while these struggles are invisible to most, I see the toll they take on him every single day.

But I’ve also watched something incredible happen over the last  year: through motocross, he’s found his place, his purpose, and his strength.

From Chaos to Clarity

At first, I wasn’t sure motocross was a good fit. It’s loud, it’s fast, and it requires full focus—three things that used to cause him the most stress. But the track surprised both his mum and I.

On a bike, he isn’t “the kid who can’t sit still.” He’s a rider. The same energy that gets him in trouble at school becomes his biggest asset. The hyperfocus that shows up when something excites him helps him anticipate turns and react with lightning speed. The noise and vibration, instead of overwhelming him, ground him.

Motocross gave him something ADHD and sensory struggles had taken away: confidence.

Growth Beyond the Track

Since riding, I’ve seen him change in ways I didn’t think possible. He’s learning discipline through training, responsibility through caring for his bike, and perseverance every time he crashes and gets back up. He’s formed friendships with other riders who don’t see his struggles first—they see his passion.

Motocross didn’t “fix” ADHD or erase the challenges of sensory processing. But it gave him a way to channel them. It showed him that what makes him different can also make him powerful.

And that lesson has spilled into every part of his life.

Why We Built NeuroMX

Watching my son grow through motocross is the reason behind NeuroMX. Our brand is more than casual clothing—it’s a conversation starter. It’s about showing the neurodiverse motocross community that they’re not alone, that their struggles can also be strengths, and that there’s pride in being different.

Every design we create is a reminder that motocross isn’t just a sport—it’s a lifeline, a community, and for some of us, a way of navigating a world that isn’t always built to understand us.

My son has taught me that the same challenges that make life harder can also unlock extraordinary resilience. At NeuroMX, we want every rider who faces those challenges to feel seen, supported, and celebrated.

Because on the track—and in life—our differences aren’t a weakness. They’re what make us unstoppable.
